Pray
inspired by Nelson Mandela
Now
we can begin
the time has come at last
let go of all the hate
surrender of the past
pray
for the other
wait for the change
if love never leaves you
hope stays the same
time
to come together
we can make the change
if faith never leaves you
the world's not the same
pray for the other
help make the change
if life never leaves you
hope will remain
someone
that you
know someone you can't see
someone you will know
time to set them free
someone speaks his mind
someone looks for truth
someone to believe
so much faith in you
Camille
You
didn't know that you were the one
the deal you struck with fate
signed sealed delivered in your hands
trying hard to forget the one whose sympathy you wrought
betrayed by the visions in your mind
and all the work you did demanded compromise from men
a woman's genius left out in the cold
and no-one really cared about the soul who lived inside
and freedom stolen from the wings of love
all
the worlds afraid of you
so terrified of questioning
unable to protect the fragile beast
incarcerated for your power and driven mad by love
struck wounded fear like statues in your heart
all
you ever needed was the recognition you deserved
and not to be betrayed by one who saw
the jealousy
his jaded soul
that brought you to your knees
the passion in your hands that needed clay
your hands.....
your hands....
your eyes......
The
Coming of Lugh (Gaelic: Tadhbhas de Lugh)
This song is based on a story in Irish mythology about the great Celtic
warrior Lugh Lauve Fauda. He was known as the Ildana, the master of all
crafts, and was said to have appeared on a white horse holding the lost
Sword of Light. His mission was to deliver Ireland and the tribe of the
De Danaans from the evil of the Fomor and Balor the one-eyed, which he
accomplished aided only by a small band of warriors from the mythical
land of Tir-Na-Nog.
Winds
of Love
The Winds of Love are blowing at us
they're standing at the crossroads of the valley
oh you winds of love help me
will you take me to my homeland
if i wasn't so afraid to go there
i'm so afraid that i would grow old
in this land of exile
take me to the land of my beloved
Hideaway
Used to be easy to hide my feelings away from you
to bury my feelings away inside
and do you know why I want to try
to make it easier to understand
that something's different now
its gonna be different now
got
to be real about it
throw caution to the wind this time
do you know how hard i've been trying to turn my back
and walkaway
i never wanted to lie to you
and if i separate myself from you
will you understand why i can't turn my back
and hideaway from love
its
natural for me to want to be with you
to be your friend
all the reasons besides
just a man or a woman
and i can see myself in you
a part of me thats holding on
do you wanna let go
let go of the past....
Like
the Dust
There's a train goin' nowhere
it's a bumpy road ahead
if you want to get out of the desert
forests are burning into the night
green fields are going brown, everywhere
earth is scorched by the sun
and we're killing the sacred land we live on
if you want to see
want to feel
want to try and make any change
before its too late
you've gotta' let
gotta' let go of the past
we've gotta change the way we think about our lives
we don't have a choice anymore
we don't have a choice anymore.....
drowning
ourselves in a sea of confusion
overloaded senses
too many illusions
everyday living's a poison
that can settle on you like a dust....
Shasta
the Wanderer
Don't know how to tell you
now you're gone
don't know how to say
what's right or wrong
could have been different
who's to say
why we go so far away?
something
to believe in
all our dreams
nothing ever is the way it seems
tried to make you change your mind
easier for you to leave behind
if
there is a reason
let it go
if there is an answer
let it show
could have been different
who's to say
why we go so far away.....
Drowning
in the Waters
You wait
I wait...
waiting for the love
to reveal itself again
last night i called your name
softly to the wind for her to carry
this seems so easy to believe
or is it only for our souls to dream?
unfolding
moments of your destiny
another knowing of your soul
a recognition of your heart's desire
the love within is never cold.....
drown
me in the waters
drown me in the waters of your soul.......
unspeakable
like destiny
surrender to uncertainty
to let it go
let it unfold is heaven's way
the path that leads me to this place
is tangled up in love's desire
to satisfy some of the hunger in my soul
to laugh to love to breathe again
to fall in love with life again
to let it go
let it unfold
is heaven's way
Jalne
Jalne
inspired by the Macedonian folksong "Se Vradse Vradse Jalno Sonce"
There's
something calling out to you
that seeks to pierce the ignorance
deliverance to understand
the Knowledge that you bring
infinite a wisdom forced to seek
eventuality
rebirth all is life and death
i see it circle round
around, around, around
The
music of Haunted By Waters is built on a primal and infectious rhythmic
background of Middle Eastern, African, and Celtic rhythms and percussion.
Weaving in lush vocals, rich melodies and harmonies, and sensuous electronic
textures, Haunted By Waters create a progressive, entrancing world sound.
Add fretless electric bass, textural and distorted electric guitars, acoustic
guitar, synth and sampled sounds, as well as didgeridu, tin whistle, conch
shell, electric violin, and flute and you have a powerful, evocative sound
in the same vein as Loreena McKennitt, Enigma, and Dead Can Dance. At
once ancient and futuristic, Haunted By Waters seamlessly combine a galaxy
of diverse influences and instrumentation into a cohesive and moving soundscape.
Haunted
By Waters is a group of six talented musicians with a vision to bring
together elements from different cultures and eras, to create a new dimension
in contemporary music- one that celebrates a spirit of unity and diversity.
Each individual member of Haunted By Waters is a musician of international
caliber on the cutting edge of world music and multimedia technology.
Co-founder and guitarist David Hannibal has been working with synthesizer
and sampling technology for over 10 years for companies such as E-mu Systems,
Oberheim, and Q-up Arts. His sampling work can be heard on recordings
by XTC and Fishbone; in prime time television series ; and in major motion
pictures (Batman, Bram Stokers Dracula). He is currently composing the
soundtrack for a feature film by Roy Finch called "Follow Me Home".
Born and raised in Ireland and steeped in the tradition of Celtic folk
music and theater, co-founder and vocalist Cait McWhir is a wonderful
singer with a stunningly rich and yearning voice, who also adds her talents
on percussion and tin whistle to the ensemble.
Synthesist/guitarist/singer
Gerry Basserman is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and currently
owns and operates Opus Nine, a music and sound design studio in San Francisco
which produces sound tracks for video and multimedia companies in addition
to designing products and sounds for many electronic music companies.
He writes articles for Electronic Musician and he is presently consulting
and alpha-testing for all new Opcode products. Percussionist extraordinaire
Tina "Bean"
Blaine is a founder of the popular multimedia ensemble D'CuCKOO. She has
studied with master Senegalese and Congolese drummers, and recorded with
Brian Eno and Mickey Hart. With a solid background in keyboards, percussion,
and electronic marimba, Bean has composed music for television soundtracks
("The Making of The Abyss" and "Peanuts") and video
games (Sega/Genesis). She has also appeared in international TV features.

HI
I attended a concert of yours at the Davis Whole Earth Festival last May
and found your music completely entrancing and spiritually moving. I felt
like the music had possessed me and was controlling my movements if i
relaxed a little bit. I was not in control. It was. The experience was
very powerful and moving.
So, later, i had
moved up to Portland, OR and was giving up the hope of ever hearing you
again and figureing the mailing address i had left would be too old and
perhaps there wouldn't be a CD out and if so, i would never know it.
I was trying to
peacefully come to terms with this when a miracle occurred(:-])! I received
notice of the coming out party and promptly went down to Tower the next
day and purchased the CD. Listening to it I had another mystical experience.
I'm sure you receive
lots of fan e-mail like this but I had to let you know how out of sorts
it ( the music) really made me. and yes, on the cover it says it is sensuous
music. Yup, have to agree with that too i suppose. But, it was almosts
scarey how magical it was/is to me.
My point? well,
I think you guys are wonderful and hope you produce more, and thanks.
Also, if you have concerts in Oregon , Please let me know.
thanks! *Louise*

Folks, Picked up the new CD at my local Tower Records (Nanuet, NY) last
night. Listened to it just before bedtime and this morning at work. Great
stuff! Congratulations. Do you plan to tour in support of the CD? I'd
love to see you guys in concert here in New York.
My interest in your band was triggered by a message posted to the Loreena
McKennitt internet digest. Are you folks Loreena fans? My interest in
World Music originally springs from the Middle Eastern influences present
in Led Zeppelin compositions, i.e, Kashmir, In the Light, etc., and the
music of Peter Gabriel, Sting, Dead Can Dance.
Congratulations again and good luck in the future.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make the Release Party due to the fact
I live in Chicago. Sounded great though.. (sigh) We don't have "Creativity"

first in line. Thnx for the prompt response. Once again you are all VERY
talented and creative... (Heck I wish I could play a didgeridu) Hope you

HI Bean,
I am Anna Buising's
husband. She brought home the new Haunted by Waters CD, and I wanted to
write and tell you that, in the colloquial, that it's "f---in' awesome".
I really like the blend of sound textures - more as I listen to it thoroughly.

Aloha, Tina,
I feel soooo hip this week. Not only do I have an "old and very dear friend"
whose band (D'Cuckoo) got a mention in Rolling Stone (the issue with all
the CyberWebShit in it), but that *same* old and very dear friend's *other*
band (HbW) is featured in the _listening booth_ at Tower Records/Honolulu.
I felt like tapping the dude in the booth next to me (who was probably
listening to some crap like Garth Brooks Celebrates a Texas Channukah)
and saying, Hey, like, I _know_ someone in _this_ band :-).
Well, what else could we do? We bought a half dozen of your CDs for gifts,
which was about half of the entire stock. I'm hoping that it will show
up as a blip on the Tower Records inventory control screen ("Hey, Mort,
look over here: that new group, Haunted by Waters, is selling really well
over in Hawaii. Maybe we've got a hit on our hands!"), which leads to
increased airplay, national write-ups, chartered lear jets, who knows?
And when you're posing for your cover story in Rolling Stone, you'll think,
"Gosh, if it wasn't for those Amberg-Johnsons in Hawaii, none of this
would have ever happened..."
Back in *this* space-time continuum, I must say that I like the CD a LOT.
Very interesting; very provocative; very musical. I'm so happy to see
you evolving and progressing in different directions. Can't wait to hear
what you do next.

Just a quick note to let y'all know how much I enjoy Haunted: the music,
the people, the challenge (!). I had fun last night helping out at the
Digital Thing-In and afterwards Cat and I were talking about how much
we liked the community we were being a part of.
I know things have been rough for a number of you recently and I laud
your professionalism in putting on a good and, at times, downright magical,
show nonetheless.
Thanks for being Haunted.

Hey,
We've been busy down here. We did a party for a DJ (Leslie Shill) at KAZU
90.3 FM in Sand City near Monterey. He does a three hour radio show featuring
music from around the world with both an ethnic theme as well as dance
music and anything that can help bridge our cultural gaps. I played Haunted
By Waters for him and he absolutely loved it. He said that he wanted to
play my CD on his show the following Wednesday night, so I loaned him
the CD and tuned in from 8PM to 11PM and he not only played it but he
put in a plug for it. I also put him in touch with X DOT 25, I gave him
a copy of the papers that I picked up the night of the show. Hope to talk
to you soon.

Dear Cait et al,
I first heard 'Haunted By Waters' at the Electronic Picnic many months
ago... truely great, hypnotic sounds. seemingly combining ancient music
with modern rhythms...reminding me a little of 'Dead Can Dance' ... I
signed up on the e-mail list and anxiously awaited announcement of the
cd release party......but, alas....no e-mail....I thought "Another great
band down the drain, why didn't I buy the cassette?!" ... I thought all
was lost and had almost given up hope and then I received a flyer from
KKSF, and to my surprise there was an ad from Xdot25 that the new cd was
on sale at Tower Records!! So. I now have your cd, and I'm hoping you
get some gigs so I can go see the group live; and PLEASE put me on your

Thanks for writing back (twice!), and giving me the right address... In
answer to your previous question, I'm writing from Chicago (where it's
50 degrees and... rainy-crappy... like Mondays are meant to be). We haveum
Tower Record Stores a-plenty around here, but I stay away from them like
the Plague: Overly crowded with too much of a non-good thing and not enough
of the other; Overly expensive merchandise; Overly underfriendly, bored
and boring staff; and even when one can manage to coax one of the employees
to crack open the Big Book o' Sounds to look up an album you're looking
for but can't seem to find.... they CANNOT, for whatever reason, seem
to be able to spell the name you're looking for. -
Even when you spell it FOR them. I dunno-- something gets lost in the
transition from my mouth to their ears.
Anyway, YES.. I have an aversion to Tower Records and therefore stick
to the smaller, weirder, and much friendlier chain-o-songshops. Or I try
to get the album in question right from the source. Which is what I'm
gonna do NOW-- thanks for giving me the correct address! Off my check
goeth!!

After listening to Haunted's performance at the Davis Whole Earth Festival
last week, I have some comments to make about the CD. It's great! I feel
the music is superior to Lorenna McKennit and Enigma (music that is in the
same genre). The recording and mixing quality on the CD is excellent. Keep
up the great work!
The concert was terrific. But, there was one piece in concert where a male
vocalist was featured. Unfortunately, neither I nor my companion cared for
that piece, and in fact we left during that performance. However, as we
were wandering out, the next selection was performed, and we were drawn
back. It was then that I purchased the excellent CD.
Please put me on your mailing list. I have a copy of your performance schedule
and will try to make it to at least some of them.
I was especially struck by the energy and performance of Cat Taylor.

Thanks for the info, David. Why does the 6/21 show start at noon? I'll
have to take a day off from work to attend this event (not that that's
bad, but I don't get a lot of days off).
My wife, some friends, and I had a most enjoyable experience listening
to "Like the Dust" under the light of the full moon in the heart of the
Santa Cruz Mountains this past Saturday night. We used backpacks to carry
the player, speakers, and CDs to our destination, from which we could
see the ocean. This was the first listening of the disc under these "conditions,"
and I'm pleased to report that it passed our scrutiny with flying colors.
Listenings like this one forge lasting memories, of which "Like the Dust"
is now an integral element.
Thank you for the experience.

I really enjoyed it. I asked my teacher where I could find the CD Like

that I should write to you. I would be intrested in purching the CD and
would like to know how to go about doing that. I am a 16 year old dancer

Some songs still make me cry.

Quick note to tell you I've been enjoying the CD for the last few months

world transcends even tragic events such as Mr. Nadel's murder. It would
be a double crime to have the actions of one terribly confused person
take not only one man's life, but steal the wind from the sails of the
wonderful, rejuvenating and inspiring music that Haunted by Waters creates.
Hope we can hook up and hang out when your return.
Love to everybody
Mike
Hello,
my name is Tammi Fabris and I watched (well I'm not sure if I'd call it
watched-I danced and sang like crazy) you perform at the Gypsy Carnival
this past weekend.
YOU WERE FABULOUS!!! I have never been to any of your concerts and I was
quite surprised by the energy you created for all us belly dancers. Last
year I started belly dancing and my first performance was a sword solo
and I performed it to one of your songs and ever since then I have listened
to your music. I spoke with Bean after the show and expressed my appreciation
and I will be coming to the Concord Pavilion in a couple weeks to see
you again. I recently bought a dumbec and am looking for beginning drum
classes for myself and my husband and I read in your webpage that Bean
teaches in Oakland. Can you please reply with some information on the
drum classes available for beginners.
Also I am part
of a belly dance troupe in Benicia and we are planning some fundraisers
and carnivals of our own someday and would like info. on how much Haunted
By Waters charges for a booking and what it would take on our part.
Thanks again for a GREAT evening and I look forward to hearing from you
soon.
Best regards,
Tammi

Dear Haunted,
We caught your show last night in Monterey. Really great! We've added
a link to your site from ours, Raven Visionary Arts (http://www.ravenvision.com).
Perhaps, if you ever add a link page, you could link to us. Anyway, hope
you check out our site. Excellent photography and more. Best...

I am absolutely thrilled with the response you sent to my message. That
is a great job on your part. With this kind of support, HBW will make
a big splash (no pun intended) in the music scene. More and more folks
are getting turned on to world music these days and are looking for innovative
bands like HBW who brilliantly incorporate these influences.
I want to assure you that I most certainly WILL tell all of my friends
about the band, buy the CD as Christmas gifts for many, many folks and
do whatever I can to ensure that people find out about HBW. I am the editor
of my company's newsletter and have done some freelance writing in the
past. I would love to review the CD for publication. Can you give me any
guidance on how to approach the band for quotes or background material?
I live in Nyack, NY, about 20 miles north of NYC.
Thanks again for your message.
It truly made my day.

There was some magic working that brought us all together that beautiful
day in San Juan Bautista... the weather... the people... the food... and
that incredible, indescibable music from another world. Thank YOU for
being a part of our lives that day. Please pass along our thanks to Cait,
Bean and all of HBW. Jim
Wanted to let you
know how much I enjoyed your music. Caught you at Monterey, missed you
in San Francisco on July 4th (parking was a nightmare). I'm keeping an
eye out for your next local performance. Local as in Bay area.
My best to you all.
Regards,
Jim O
